Commenting on the decision to award the G-Star initiative, Chan said: “It is an extremely innovative product that not only exceeded the criteria in terms of form, function and innovation, but also sustainability.”
The initiative, fronted by Pharrell Williams, revised the brand’s entire manufacturing process, but responding to a question about what the actual product was, Brazil’s jury member Guto Indio Da Costa stated that despite the fact the panel had received the final product of the jeans in the judging sessions, it was the tissue that used the materials from the ocean that should be considered the product. “The final result was the clothing,” added Dan Formosa, designer, Smart Design, USA.
