Electric Theatre Collective has announced the appointment of David Bryan as animation director, bolstering the studio’s already exceptional character and creature animation capabilities.

With over a decade of experience at The Mill and MPC, Bryan is known for his flawless animated performances across commercials and film. Between 2016 and 2018, he earned an impressive hat-trick at the VES Awards for standout campaigns including John Lewis’ Buster the Boxer, Samsung’s Ostrich, and Volkswagen’s Born Confident featuring Bam the Ram.

His work in film includes animating a sequence for Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie and bringing a scorpion to life on Daniel Craig’s hand in Sam Mendes’ Skyfall. Along the way, Bryan has collaborated with top directors such as Dougal Wilson, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr, and Ridley Scott. But some of his most meaningful learning moments have come from unexpected places. “I once improved my dialogue animation after exchanging techniques with a professional puppeteer,” Bryan shares. “Someone working with far fewer tools, yet still able to achieve incredibly convincing performances.”

On joining Electric Theatre Collective, Bryan says: “After spending more than a decade in my previous team, I’m excited to explore creative approaches, reconnect with old friends and be a part of one of the most exciting and creative studios within visual effects.”

Greg McKneally, joint head of CG at Electric, adds: “Having David join the team is a huge win for us. His portfolio speaks for itself and his attention to detail in animated performances is impeccable. He’s a brilliant collaborator, easily forging relationships with directors and creatives, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board.”
