Directing duo Clan head to Eleanor
Clan is the directorial duo of Federico Telerman and Nicolás Uboldi.
What happens when two artists, one a painter, the other a musician, find storytelling synergy?
You get Clan, the directorial duo of Federico Telerman and Nicolás Uboldi, who operate like creative symbionts.
True cultural polymaths, their artistic practices inform their filmmaking. Telerman brings a painter’s eye to colour and composition, while Uboldi approaches rhythm and pacing like a seasoned musician.
Uboldi says, “Fede has a strong sense of colour palette, style, and visual feeling because he works with that in his artistic work. I can think of a treatment in terms of rhythm and mood because of my work with music.”
Clan’s compass is curiosity. Uboldi and Telerman were drawn to filmmaking and advertising as a richly interdisciplinary field, thrilled by how the industry pushes directors to draw on a variety of skills from many creative realms.
Their discerning eye and storytelling intuition are shaped by a sharp attunement to the world around them. “It’s essential for a director or any artist to be at least intrigued and curious about working with other parts of their mind and their body, working in other disciplines and other crafts,” says Telerman. “You need to be open to the outside world. And that’s definitely something we like about advertising. Every script, every agency, every creative, every team, every country offers a new possibility, and it’s good to keep your doors open.”
Their diverse portfolio spans elegant, cinematic dramas to sharp, vibrant comedies. Starting from a simple story of transformation, their stunning spot for Cinemark writes a visual love letter to the craft and tradition of cinema. Regarded as the filmic triumph that marked a turning point in their directorial career, Robot exemplified just how spectacularly their romantic, craft-driven visions merged with the world of commerce.
Another milestone, their spy film for Smirnoff, Undercover, uses the genre as its playground, crafting an espionage adventure that submerges audiences in a vivid world of glamorous suspense and intriguing secrecy. “From this simple script about a suitcase, we were able to build a world, not only in terms of script but in terms of art direction,” says Uboldi.
Clan’s work is advanced by their voracious appetite for challenge, whether faced with the constraint of a shorter piece or the gauntlet thrown by comedy. “Our new projects are shorter and funnier than the ones we used to do, and we are really excited by that turn,” says Uboldi. Like comedic visual poems, their vibrant vignettes for Facebook exemplify the possibility of striking craft and storytelling within concise and humorous films.
“It’s rare to find a place with such a hunger for excellence and curiosity for the world. That’s the mindset we look for. We saw that in Eleanor,” said Telerman.
Uboldi nodded, “We’re excited to explore new horizons together as we step into the European markets.”
“Clan represents the perfect balance of artistry and intention,” says Sophie Gold. “Their cinematic storytelling reframes the possibilities of commercial filmmaking. I can’t wait to see what we build together.”
