Framestore adds to creative leadership team in London
VFX and animation supervisors Patrick Ledda and Daniel Blacker join the studio ahead of major film productions including How to Train Your Dragon, F1, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Visual effects studio Framestore has announced the appointments of VFX Supervisor Patrick Ledda and Animation Supervisor Daniel Blacker to its London-based creative leadership team. The two seasoned supervisors bring with them an impressive body of work across high-profile projects including Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King and Snow White.
Ledda, who holds a PhD in Computer Graphics, began his career as a generalist at Terry Gilliam’s Peerless before joining MPC, where he worked for over 15 years. Rising from Lighting Lead to Head of Lookdev, his credits include Prometheus, 47 Ronin, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. His supervisory debut came with Disney’s Cinderella, followed by boundary-pushing work on Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, Lady and the Tramp, Dumbo, and The Little Mermaid.
“I’ve long admired Framestore’s innovative approach and this is an incredible opportunity to collaborate with some of the industry's most talented minds across a global network of studios,” said Ledda. “It’s hugely motivating to be joining a company that continually pushes the boundaries of creativity and technology in filmmaking.”
Blacker, who started his career at Framestore over 18 years ago, returns after spending 15 years at MPC. Having worked on more than 20 films, including World War Z, The Jungle Book, Cruella, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, he most recently served as Animation Supervisor on Barry Jenkins’ Mufasa: The Lion King. His career began as an animator on Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are.
“Framestore has always championed handcrafted, animated performances that are brought to life with such care and attention by teams of artists,” said Blacker. “Coming back to guide these teams and collaborate with Art Department, Visdev, and FPS to tell these stories for our clients is really exciting.”
The London studio continues to lead seamless visual effects work on major titles including Wicked, Paddington in Peru, Mickey 17, and Civil War, with upcoming releases such as How to Train Your Dragon, F1, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps on the horizon.
“Patrick and Daniel join us at a pivotal time, as we embark on film productions that are both creatively ambitious and technologically demanding,” said Fiona Walkinshaw, CEO of Film & Episodic at Framestore. “We know that they are more than up to the task and are really looking forward to seeing what they create.”
With the addition of Blacker and Ledda, Framestore reinforces its commitment to pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling, delivering emotionally resonant, photorealistic worlds that continue to define the future of filmmaking.
