Directed by Benjamin Darville, through Our Second Cousin, the eerie film at first appears to be probing gloomy introspection, as mildly catatonic characters waft through corridors of confusion and REM fever dreams.

Then the narrative shifts into a surreal surgery situation and, along with impressive cinematography by Klara Simanova and arresting production design by Finlay Jenner, it hurtles further toward bewilderment.

While the artist reveals a dominant theme is that of dissecting the past, the director, a frequent collaborator with Sandy Crow comments: "A surreal public ritual unfolds in an old theatre as a puppet-like body is brought to life by a collective of enigmatic doctors. Blurring the lines between machine and human, audience and subject, performance and simulation, the scenario is situated on the threshold between the mechanical and the mystical – a modern alchemical experiment. As the body is raised, the world moves in clockwork syncopation, who is the puppet master and who is real?"

Hmmm... Who indeed?
