The BBC Shipping Forecast is a nightly British radio institution; a 100-year-old broadcast of maritime weather reports whose rhythmic, poetic delivery has become an unlikely national lullaby, soothing listeners to sleep for generations.
Taking the uniquely AMSRish cadence, vocabulary, and ritual calm of the update, The Sleeping Forecast is a BBC Sounds-produced podcast which augments the audio with gentle ambient music, and, to promote it in the most gorgeous way, the broadcaster has enlisted the talents of indie-pop royalty...
A self-confessed lifetime fan of the Forecast, Jarvis Cocker, narrates and is animated in Joseph Wallace's lovely new film, reflecting on the calming power of the pod to soothe the nation.
With puppets designed by Wallace, built by Adeena Grubb, animated by Kim Keukeleire, and shot by cinematographer Malcolm Hadley, this charming update to last year's dreamy film is another crafty delight.
