LIAKH signs with Furlined
A creative polymath, LIAKH began his career as an in-house creative before moving behind the camera.
Furlined welcomes director LIAKH to its roster of esteemed directors, who have earned the storied production house recognition as one of the top creative companies, year after year. This is LIAKH’s first commercial representation in the United States.
LIAKH is the eponymous moniker of Ukrainian-born comedy writer and director Daniel Liakh, whose work lies at the intersection of the absurd and the deeply human. A blue belt in jiu-jitsu and self-described “relatively nice person,” his work underscores a fundamental belief that the funniest things in life often coexist with the most tragic.
Beginning his career as a creative in esteemed agencies, including BBH, VMLY&R, R/GA, and Crispin Porter + Bogusky, LIAKH honed his unique blend of conceptual thinking and innovative approach to story.
As a director, LIAKH has garnered Gold at the Young Director Award (YDA) for his film Dear Art for Sainsbury Centre. The film invites all misunderstood, unloved, and ignored pieces of art around the world to join an alternative collection that recognises art as being alive. Since then, his films have received recognition and accolades from D&AD, British Arrows, Eurobest, Art Directors Club, Berlin Commercial Awards, David Reviews, shots, and LBBOnline, amongst others. LIAKH has also served as a juror for shots Awards: EMEA.
“I was a boy from Kyiv watching The World’s Biggest Asshole by Speck & Gordon and The Truth Is Worth It campaign by Martin & Lindsay and imagining one day making something anywhere near as good,” says LIAKH. He continues, “Now, as an older boy, I am sharing the table with the very people who made these films, amongst other work I continue to reference. It’s a scary, beautiful time to be alive, and I’m grateful to be doing it in great company.”
Diane McArter, President and Founder of Furlined, says, “LIAKH’s films uniquely blend conceptual wit with playful humor, where the outlandish somehow feels completely logical. He is a master in the making and I’m delighted to be on this journey with him.”
