Matt Burn returns to Absolute as creative technologist
Since leaving Absolute in 2022, Burn has become a leading voice in AI video, bringing traditional VFX expertise into emerging technologies.
Absolute welcome back Matt Burn in the newly created role of Creative Technologist.
Over the course of nearly two decades at Absolute, Burn built a reputation as a respected CG Supervisor. He now returns after three years at Realtime, where his work included Film & TV projects such as ITV’s The Winter King and Lockerbie: A Search for Truth.
Since leaving Absolute in 2022, Burn has become a leading voice in AI video, bringing traditional VFX expertise into emerging technologies. His project Oranguerillatan led to collaborations with Peter Gabriel and earned him a place in the Creative Partner Programs for platforms including Runway and Pika.
In his new role, Burn will work across Absolute and sister company Blind Pig to advance the integration of AI and new technologies into the post-production pipeline, helping ensure these tools sit naturally within traditional VFX workflows and enhance the team’s craft.
Beginning his career at Absolute as a runner in 2005, Burn became a founding member of the CG department, rising from Artist to CG Supervisor and contributing to major campaigns for Samsung, Levi’s, Prada, The National Gallery and Lionsgate, including Baz Luhrmann’s H&M spot The Secret Life of Flowers.
"The opportunity to return to Absolute was something I couldn’t turn down" says Burn. "I’m excited to work with old friends and new faces, push things forward, bring fresh tools into the mix and help enhance the creativity of the team."
He adds: "Both Absolute and Blind Pig have embraced AI in exactly the right way - as something that supports, not replaces human artistry. Experience, a sharp visual eye and, most importantly, taste are crucial when curating AI generations, and that belief really matters to me. That alignment was a huge part of why I wanted to return - I can’t wait to be part of what comes next."
Absolute Managing Director Chris Batten says, "Having someone of Matt’s calibre rejoin the team is a real statement of intent. Post-production is evolving fast, and Matt’s creativity, vision and technical insight will help ensure we stay ahead of the curve. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him back."
