For Nexus Studios and directorial collective WERE’s new spot for MilkPEP, they teamed up with business agency Gale to serve up a hilarious and fast-paced anime-inspired campaign that champions authenticity in craft.

Milk Can Help features a series of seven spots, conceptualised and scripted by Gale, bursting with bold animation, rapid reversals, and lovingly exaggerated tropes pulled straight from anime’s rich visual language. The films highlight milk’s benefits, supporting strength and growth, while contrasting it to its more absurd limitations.

“The scripts were already infused with OTT, absurd humour” say directors WERE, “we also had a lot of fun with it, going as wild and weird as possible to gauge where the limit was…turns out we had quite a bit of room to play!”

From a monster under your bed dreaming of becoming a nail tech, to dodging curfews with super-powered climbing skills, each film speaks directly to a Gen-Z audience fluent in both anime and internet culture. Authenticity to the genre was crucial, and, with a deep love for the style and with the work to prove it, WERE delivered.

To pull off the fast-paced production, the team turned to Blender for early layout and background development, allowing flexibility in camera moves and composition before turning to the more traditional painting stage. The entire pipeline was powered by anime lovers, from storyboarders to compositors, which was vital to keep the campaign rooted in the world it’s referencing.

Milk Can Help will begin to roll out across Crunchyroll, YouTube, Snap, and TikTok with new episodes releasing throughout the year.

“From character acting to explosive 2D FX, our goal was to make this feel like something you’d stumble across on Crunchyroll and not immediately clock as an ad. This is craft-driven storytelling, made by people who love the medium. Not just to impress, but to express and connect with a teenage audience in, and all in under 15 seconds.” added WERE, Directors, Nexus Studio.
