Solab Films has announced the signing of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ali Abbasi for commercial representation, expanding its roster of internationally acclaimed directorial talent.
Known for his bold cinematic vision and genre-defying narratives, Abbasi brings a distinctive voice to Solab’s lineup. one rooted in deeply human storytelling, visual ambition, and fearless creative risk-taking.
Abbasi first gained international recognition with Shelley (2016), a psychological horror film that premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. He rose to further prominence with Border (2018), which won the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes and showcased his singular ability to blend surrealism with emotional depth.
In 2022, Abbasi returned to the Cannes Film Festival with Holy Spider, a Palme d’Or contender that cemented his reputation as one of contemporary cinema’s most audacious voices.
In 2023, Abbasi directed the final two episodes of HBO’s The Last of Us, bringing his unique cinematic style to one of television’s most critically acclaimed series.
Most recently, Abbasi directed The Apprentice (2024), a biographical drama exploring the early rise of Donald Trump and his relationship with political fixer Roy Cohn. The film premiered at Cannes in 2024 and received widespread critical acclaim, leading to nominations at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
