Tommy DeVito steps in for Progressive
Progressive debuts season two pf football campaign, The Backup, with first new spot featuring Tommy DeVito
Season two of Progressive’s The Backup campaign launches, which shows that just like in football, sometimes you need to call in a professional backup when life goes off script.
This year’s campaign, created by Arnold Worldwide, enlists a lineup of current NFL backup quarterbacks, including Tommy DeVito, Teddy Bridgewater, Mitch Trubisky and Tyler Huntley. Each QB is featured in a unique spot, emphasising that while there may not be a professional backup there to help you with life’s challenges, Progressive is there to provide coverage you can count on.
The first spot in the series features quarterback DeVito, who steps in with a smile to save a family photo shoot. This spot will debut on FOX during the Ohio St. vs. Texas game on August 30. New spots will continue to roll out across OLV, streaming, social and digital over the course of the 18-week NFL Season.

“Nothing is more off putting to a football fan than a spot about football that doesn’t know or understand football. One of the things I love so much about our Backup campaign is how true to the football experience the construct is. The optimism you feel when your backup QB comes in to provide a spark when the starter just doesn’t have it, it’s a truism that all football fans feel and understand,” said Sean McBride, Chief Creative Officer of Arnold.
For the 2025 NFL season, The Backup campaign includes four anthem spots across TV, streaming and digital, in addition to accompanying unique radio. The first iteration of the campaign featured Case Keenum, Josh Dobbs, Colt McCoy and Jacoby Brissett.
