Directed by Gwilym Evans through way out west., this poignant and reflective documentary short, titled Belfast Walls, paints a poetic portrait of a city once divided by ethno-nationalist conflict.
Lush countryside and urban landscapes stand in stark contrast under gloomy skies as Evans captures the paintings that decorate Belfast’s streets, each mural a moving visual message about the conflict and reconciliation of The Troubles.
The somber atmosphere and thought-provoking vignettes are heightened by a narration of Derek Mahon’s poem Ecclesiastes, read by the daughter of former IRA prisoner Tommy Tolan.
