We all had that one precious soft toy that was the comforting mainstay through our childhood. Who knows, maybe some of us still turn to those things from time to time.
This spot for Petro Canada, created by McCann Toronto and directed by OPC directing duo Jon & Torey, is a beautiful reminder of the importance of not just the objects we hold dear but of the people around us - some of whom we might never know - who recognise that bond.
Called Special Delivery, the 110-second spot was inspired by the true story of a good Samaritan trucker in British Columbia, and much of the dialogue was drawn from a real conversation between a mother and daughter during casting.
The lead role of Grady was played by Canadian trucker Mike Dosanjh, who performed all of the driving himself, and to bring the story to life, the creative and production teams travelled across Alberta, shooting on 16mm film, to achieve a textured, cinematic look while staying true to the real-life tale.
All locations were authentic spaces truckers encounter on their routes, and while the team worked from a script, many shots were discovered organically by driving alongside Mike during the day.
