Psyop signs director Doug Sweetland
Oscar-nominated filmmaker and animator Doug Sweetland joins Psyop, bringing his Pixar storytelling expertise to the studio’s expanding creative roster.
Psyop has signed Oscar-nominated director and animator Doug Sweetland, further strengthening its position as a leader in animated storytelling.
Sweetland is known for his work on Presto and his contributions to Monsters, Inc. and Cars, Sweetland brings extensive industry experience to the studio. Most recently, Sweetland has directed short-form animated content for mobile gaming brands Dream Games and Supercell, with campaigns amassing over 600 million views on YouTube and TikTok.
"Doug is an animation genius; it was inspiring to see him bring his sense of humour and play to this project, backed by a deep, intuitive understanding of storytelling and animation," says Amanda Miller, executive producer at Psyop. "He’s a treat to work with, making projects fun, and that comes through on screen."
Psyop co-founder Marie Hyon collaborated with Sweetland on the cinematic trailer for Dream Games’ latest release, Royal Kingdom. "Doug brought his Pixar storytelling magic and sharp humour to this project, making the Dream Games characters all the more memorable. His sense of charm was a huge part of what made this first chapter in the Royal Kingdom story work so well," says Hyon.
Jen Cadic, Psyop’s managing director of animation, adds: "Doug’s impressive legacy of animation experience, combined with his forward-thinking directorial approach, is a perfect fit for Psyop’s DNA. His arrival further advances our creative evolution."
Sweetland says he is eager to explore new storytelling formats with the studio. "It’s an honour to join a team that fully embraces animation’s limitless possibilities," he says. "Psyop’s hunger to create cutting-edge work across forms, styles, and platforms is something we share. To zip into tight Blue Angels formation with them is a dream."
Sweetland’s appointment marks a significant addition to Psyop’s roster as the studio continues to push boundaries in animation and storytelling.
