Quriosity Productions banks on director Sophia Banks
Known for her cinematic flair across fashion, action and drama, Banks joins the Quriosity roster for US commercial representation.
Quriosity Productions welcome filmmaker Sophia Banks to its roster, adding her dynamic voice and genre-spanning experience to the company’s growing directorial line-up.
Known for her bold, high-style visuals and cinematic command of action and fashion-led narratives, Banks brings both feature film muscle and top-tier commercial polish to the studio. The signing was announced by Quriosity founder and executive producer Qadree Holmes, and executive producer Mark Conley.
Banks first made waves in the commercial world with a breakout campaign for fashion designer Christian Siriano, featuring three models skateboarding through downtown Los Angeles. Her eclectic reel spans work for Target, Pepsi, Land Rover, Airbnb, BMW, Barbie, and fashion labels from Sofia Vergara and Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
She made her feature debut in 2022 with the action thriller Black Site for Netflix, and her award-winning sci-fi short Unregistered premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Upcoming projects include a feature centred on Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto, written by Mark Goffman.
The partnership came together through Quriosity’s Texas-based rep Julie Koellner, part of a powerhouse sales team that includes Sarah Gitersonke, Bobby Rowe, Sabrina Mehar, and Lisa Schreiber Nabor.
“We knew right away we wanted to work with her,” said Holmes. “Beyond the quality of her work, we felt an inherent sense of integrity in her as both a person and a creative force. She surrounds herself with some of the most talented people in the industry.”
Banks echoed the sentiment: “I was drawn to Quriosity because of its reputation for championing unique creative voices and pushing the boundaries of commercial storytelling. Their commitment to diversity, innovation, and high-quality filmmaking aligns perfectly with my own approach to directing. I wanted a home where my work would not only be supported but also elevated, and Quriosity provides that in every way. I love everyone on the team.”
A skilled producer as well as director, Banks’ long-form credentials include co-producing Julian Schnabel’s Hand of Dante, starring Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Gerard Butler, John Malkovich, Al Pacino, and Martin Scorsese. She also executive produced Paul Schrader’s Oh Canada, featuring Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Jacob Elordi, and Michael Imperioli, which premiered at Cannes in 2024. Upcoming projects include Blood On Snow, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Aaron Taylor Johnson, directed by Cary Fukunaga.
“These experiences have heightened her directorial skills immensely,” said Conley. “She has an artist’s eye and a producer’s mind. That makes our job easier and gives clients absolute confidence that their campaign is in safe hands.”
Banks’ distinctive creative voice is informed by real-life experiences few directors can claim, like training with the US military. She recently participated in the JCOC (Joint Civilian Orientation Conference), a boot camp-style immersion programme for industry leaders to better understand the mission and history of the US armed forces. Her experience included exploring tanks, running Marine obstacle courses, and getting an inside look at a nuclear submarine.
Conley adds: “All of her past experience aligns perfectly with her sense of adventure, and that shows in her work. We’re expecting huge things from this collaboration.”
Holmes concludes: “Sophia’s work is as diverse as Quriosity itself. She has fashion, beauty, lifestyle, dialogue, and she’s phenomenal with cars. Her style is polished, sophisticated and distinct. She’s also, frankly, a badass.”
Banks is already in discussions on upcoming campaigns through Quriosity, aiming to bring her cinematic visuals and bold storytelling to premium brand partners.
