RSA Films Global Managing Director, Kai Hsiung took home the sought aer Fellowship Award. The Board of Directors decided to recognise Hsiung as she has nurtured excellence of production, often overlooked but vital for the creative industry. She sets such an incredible example to everyone and conducts herself with patience and kindness, showing equal reverence to interns and creatives.
Agency of the Year went to Saatchi & Saatchi; Production Company of the Year went to SMUGGLER; and finally, Untold Studios, tenthree and 750mph were awarded Craft Company of the Year conjunctively, this is the second time the Board of Directors have decided to continue to award three companies Craft Companies of the year, recognising the importance of Audio, Editing and VFX in the craft of commercial content creation.
Simon Cooper decided to address the importance of prioritising excellence and originality in our industry as a way to avoid being hollowed out in the pursuit of efficiency: “It is easier to make more work but not work of excellence. And it appears to be getting harder by the year. Streamlining processes at the expense of creative collaboration, limiting our partners by consolidation, and using tools that recycle, and mimic human originality all have their justifications and probably their place, but none make the path to excellence easier.”
Talking about the work entered in the competition, Cooper added: “We should all be pretty pleased as an industry that we are still here and able to produce work of the quality and ambition of that being celebrated tonight in the face of these challenges.”
Full CG graphics for the night were designed by Glassworks and 750mph and Twenty Below Music created the wonderful music and sound design for the show. The Assembly Rooms cut the shortlist sizzle which showcased the 230 shortlisted films.
More than 227 bronze, silver and gold trophies were handed out on the night, for the full list of winners, see here.
