It's safe to say that The Hives can always be described as 'animated', but in their latest music video, directors Filip Nilsson and Henry Moore Selder have taken it to the next level.
Placing the rockers in a Lichtenstein-style pop art world, replete with Ben-Day dots and bold outlines, Paint A Picture is a performance video that leans into the cartoonish nature of the band's exuberance.
Shot through production company PINE, the film's low-fi yet high-concept styling, accentuated by the final, 4th-wall-breaking third act, goes to show that in an era of generative AI and digital augmentation, nothing quite beats good-old in-camera craft.
