We’re used to seeing ads that show off the functionality of a fancy new tech product, but rarely does a spot demonstrate such a life-changing feature in a real situation as in this harrowing film for the Apple Watch.
Created by TBWA\Media Arts Lab through Scoundrel, the film tells the real story of Byron Bay resident Rick Shearman, an experienced swimmer who found himself pulled 1.6 kilometres out to sea by a dangerous rip current.
At the heart of the spot is a harrowing VO, Shearman’s phone call to the emergency services from his Apple Watch, which ultimately led to his rescue. The survivor stars in the reenactment of the traumatic event, hoping his story would inspire others to be prepared for similar emergencies.
