Directed by Mattheo Fernandes through CLIMA, with lush cinematography by the brand's founder Nicholas Bluff, Prologue is a richly textured film for Bluff Bounce that explores light not just as illumination, but as an expressive, living force in nature.
Following a mysterious figure’s moody fashion film-esque wanderings in the forest, the film blurs the line between natural reality and staged cinematic lighting. What initially feels organic gradually reveals itself to be a constructed illusion. The piece is greatly enhanced by hypnotically eerie sound design by IXYXI.
Danish DP Nicholas Bluff founded his company after moving to Brazil and struggling with its harsh sunlight. He wanted to expand bounce lighting, usually a neutral white, to reflect the colours of the surrounding environment, so created fabrics that mimicked the richness of nature – blue for sky, beige or grey for ground, and even green for grass. The aim is to offer more lifelike hues and also to more faithfully light diverse skin tones.
