Made by humanitarian charity Choose Love in partnership with British band Coldplay, and filmed by British Nigerian director Renee Maria Osubu through Somesuch, this profoundly touching hybrid short captures the struggles and strength of migrants as they navigate life in a new country.
Titled In-Between, the film opens with a cleverly choreographed music-video-style segment introducing the main character, Omar, a young refugee from Ethiopia attempting to settle in Malta.
The creative subtly shifts into a reflective and gorgeously shot documentary format, weaving music from Coldplay’s 2024 album Moon Music with emotive insight from real immigrants and their loved ones back home, painting an authentic and thought-provoking picture of life suspended between two worlds.
Director Osubu says: “The story we’ve told is one that resonates far beyond borders. It’s a story of people desperately fleeing their homelands in search of safety for their families, of mistreatment, isolation and rejection based on race or language, and, above all, of a love that transcends all boundaries. Proudly preserving culture through community and tradition.
