Director Gariel Moses unveils this visually striking and surreal music video for hip hop duo Clipse’s Chains & Whips, featuring Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, and Malice.
Bold and captivating from the very first vignette, in which a guitarist stands in the centre of a dingy, office-like room, the promo splices dark and distorted shots of stretched bodies and faces with scenes of Black American neighbourhoods, prisons, churches and police chases.
Throughout, recurring panoramic shots of a young child against a white background serve as a poignant symbol of innocence against contrasting depictions of wealth and systemic oppression.
