Independent creative agency Mother has promoted Jed Cohen to Chief Creative Officer of its Los Angeles office.

Cohen, who joined the agency in 2022 as Executive Creative Director, has played a key role in the agency’s growth, securing major clients and expanding its creative impact.

During his tenure, Cohen has helped strengthen the agency’s business, from leading the successful defence of the Sonic Drive-In account to bringing in new clients, including General Motors, Electronic Arts, and a confidential CPG brand. Over the past 12 months, he has won four consecutive pitches, doubling Mother LA’s client roster.

“I’ve been here three years, but on a daily basis, I’m reminded how fiercely the idea of independence runs through Mother,” says Cohen. “It doesn’t just mean we aren’t owned by a holding company, it means we’re free to create things we love that build our clients’ brands and a culture that values creativity and people in equal measure. The only thing that matters to me is building the agency I always wished I worked at. Having the chance to do that here is the honour of my career.”

Teri Miller, partner and president of Mother USA, adds: “Jed is the heart and soul of Mother in LA. Under his leadership, he’s rallied the agency to new heights, putting people first while driving our next chapter of work and wins. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone in this industry who loves advertising as much as he does. His enthusiasm is contagious, we’re all proud to be ‘Jedheadz.’”

The appointment comes at a pivotal time for Mother LA, which has recently onboarded several new clients and hires. The agency began the year with multiple productions underway, with new campaigns set to launch for Postmates, Sonic, and several additional brands. Next month, Mother LA will relocate to a larger office in Los Angeles’s West Adams neighbourhood.

Before joining Mother, Cohen was at TBWA\Media Arts Lab, where he worked on Apple campaigns, earned an Emmy nomination, and was named one of Adweek’s Top 100 Creatives in Advertising. Prior to that, he was a creative director at 72andSunny, where he developed award-winning work for Sonos, Call of Duty, Coors Light, SportsCenter@Night, Carl’s Jr., and National Geographic. His work has been recognised by Cannes Lions, D&AD, Clio Awards, The One Show, Andys, and Webbys.

Cohen also co-wrote Teddy Bear, a short film that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Originally from South Africa, he moved to Miami at the age of 12 and discovered advertising after winning a radio contest to write a commercial for a piano company at 16.

With Cohen at the creative helm, Mother LA continues to build on its momentum, delivering innovative and impactful work for its growing client roster.
