New podcast shows us Other Ways Of Seeing
A new podcast hosted by Art Practice's Mel Fong has just launched, which features industry practitioners who also maintain a personal art practice.
A podcast project to uncover art practices within the creative industries, by people that create for money and make art for themselves, has launched with its first episode.
Other Ways Of Seeing, hosted by Art Practice's Mel Fong, is an intimate series of conversations with advertising professionals who also create art for themselves —be that in film, painting, writing, music, movement, or any form of expression that completes them creatively.
Fong, a long time agent to film directors and artists in the advertising industry and beyond, explores the emotional, intellectual and often unseen dimensions of an art practice within or alongside a creative job. “So many of us in the creative industries carry personal art practices that live in the margins; quiet, essential and often unseen," says Fong. "Other Ways of Seeing is a space to bring that work into the light.”

The first episode features Sophie Ebrard [above], a prolific and highly successful photographer with a background in account handling for some of the biggest agencies... until she made the leap into photography. A bronze Lion winner, and recently featured on shots for one of her first commercial films for L’Oreal, Fong and Ebrard talk about where her projects come from, her influences, motherhood, incredibly brave exhibitions held in her own house, and an awesome piece of advice for herself when she started out.
Upcoming episodes include conversations with multidisciplinary directing duo Fitch/ Baker, aka Matt Fitch (Creative Director at ad agency Pablo) and Chris Baker (Head of Sales at production company Park Village), who are also co-creators of shots' annual Cannes comic, and Anthony Burrill, the renowned graphic artist known globally for his bold, analogue typographic work and iconic visual language (who is also responsible for Other Ways Of Seeing's visual identity).
The podcast is available on its own site, on Apple Podcasts, and wherever you listen.
