Nexus Studios has signed WERE, a newly formed director collective composed of Alice Isaac, Charles Bigeast, and Ewen Stenhouse. Known for their cutting-edge 2D animation, the trio brings a wealth of experience and a distinctive, high-energy creative approach.

Before forming WERE, Bigeast and Stenhouse held pivotal roles at Golden Wolf, working on dynamic animation projects for global brands. Isaac, Bigeast, and Stenhouse’s combined expertise has led to industry recognition, with accolades including Best Music Video wins, Motion Awards, British Animation Awards, and a Daytime Emmy nomination.

WERE’s work is characterised by an irreverent and adult-oriented sensibility, with past projects for Netflix, KFC, Adult Swim, Riyadh Season, and ITV’s Rugby World Cup promos. As part of Nexus Studios, the collective will continue to push creative boundaries across games, commercials, branded content, and entertainment.

“As a brand-new collective with a unique and irreverent point of view, we have ambition that includes—but also transcends—the traditional formats of 2D animation,” say the directors of WERE. “Nexus Studios has built a legacy of pushing creative boundaries, and we’re incredibly excited to be part of it.”

Chris O’Reilly, co-founder and chief creative officer at Nexus Studios, adds: “We’re delighted to welcome WERE to our roster. Their fearless, high-energy work, sharp storytelling, and offbeat humour bring a fresh edge to 2D animation. With a knack for blending wit, artistry, and character-driven narratives, they’re a perfect creative match for Nexus, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on bold new projects together.”

With WERE’s addition, Nexus Studios continues to expand its roster with trailblazing talent committed to redefining animation and storytelling.
