After creating waves with the viral BRLO beer campaign in 2024, which was a spoof of Jeremy Allen White's Calvin Klein shoot, that same team is back with another campaign, this time one inspired by the famous, early 70s Coca-Cola spot, Hilltop.
For the US debut of Paulaner, a famous German drink, now rebranded as Sunset for an American audience, Patrick Höchstetter, CEO of Hamburg-based production company Pulloverfilms, director Charley Stadler and his creative partner Adam Kreutner got to work on a spot they hope causes as big as stir as the BRLO one did.
Though devised in 2024, the spot has gone through different iterations as generative AI evolves and has just been released as nostalgia-inspired "modern anthem for a new generation". Grammy nominee Malte Hagemeister of California Music, who composed the BRLO anthem, has created a folk-inspired track built around Paulaner's simple message of, 'we bring back love and peace'.
“We didn’t want the film to feel like a gimmick,” Stadler said. “Other brands jumped into AI too quickly and got burned. What fascinates me is that — even as a seasoned director — I can no longer tell the difference between this and real footage.”
"The Paulaner Sunset campaign, driven by an emotionally touching American folk hymn, marks a new era in advertising," adds Höchstetter, "where advanced technology seamlessly merges with genuine human emotion and coherent narrative structures to create a message that transcends borders and generations."
“We truly believe this campaign will resonate,” concludes Sunset CEOs Matthias and Anton Memminger. “Because right now, what the world needs isn’t just another drink. It’s love and peace. So come on and sip with us.”
