London based production company Tantrum have announced the signing of first AI Director to their _ai roster.

British born Maike has a background as a film director, artist, writer and sculptor. AI was the most natural place for Maike to continue to develop his remarkably unique vision.

Maike has been creating generative AI films and stills for over a year now and has honed his skills in this time to understand more fully the control or lack there of, he can employ within it.

“Working with AI is like riding a wild stallion. Sometimes I want to go left and AI says it wants to go right and I love how it never does the same thing twice. It seems in synch with my subconscious, which is where the best stuff comes from. And the more creatives work with it, the more they will tailor their scripts with AI’s capabilities in mind. And then we will reach the goal of not thinking about the technology that helped us make a film, but that it created an emotional response, it made us laugh, it made us cry” said Maike.

It does start to feel as if generative AI tools were made especially for these highly creative individuals like Maike, who can explore like children in a sweetshop a world of all possibility with no boundaries.

Tantrum MD/Owner Stuart Wrigglesworth says: “When we first watched Maike’s work it was an instant Wow! We’d watched AI films like everyone but nothing that had such a unique vision. We quickly decided we wanted him at Tantrum. And importantly for us, Maike also understands the world of advertising and what Agency and Brands need. It’s a transitional time for everyone and we are already talking to Agencies about their potential AI projects”

For Tantrum's MD/Owners Will Waters and Wrigglesworth, AI is the new, undeniable, all encompassing tool at their disposal when making films.

Wrigglesworth adds: “AI Directors are the creators of not just tomorrow but today. We believe that AI Directors unique talents will soon be respected in exactly the same way film directors are today and always have been. Purely generative AI, hybrid productions involving live action/virtual production and generative AI, VFX solutions and AI within the post production workflow, are the here and now.

We have always looked to future technology to support our Directors in their storytelling goals. I dimly remember the move from Steenbeck to video editing, when Flame first hit post production suites, Motion Control, the Arriflex D20, game changers at the time. AI is no different but clearly so much more.

We are super excited by what this next step holds. And with Maike we have the perfect partner for our journey”
