Created and produced by Nice and Serious, and directed by Serafima Serafimova, this film for the women’s rights organisation EVAW uses a TikTok-style, vox-pop format to expose the insidious, relentless risks of harm that restrict women in everyday situations.
What is clever about the spot is the very subtle shifting in tone from easy breezy fun situations that the man is able to envisage, to the sinister reality faced by the young woman who, daily, both online and IRL, deals with fear of being trolled, stared at or pursued while out after dark or in bars.
Gently taking control of the mic, she takes control of the messaging – stating the simple straightforward truth that women feel constantly under threat from actual or cyber violence.
The director commented: “What excited me most about the idea was its potential to cut through the noise; not by being shocking or frightening, but by being emotionally honest and visually bold."
