Executive produced by legendary graphic designer David Carson, this new short documentary tells the story of advertising art director, David Bartels.
While the name might not ring a bell, Bartels' work, especially the iconic Joe Camel brand mascot for Camel cigarettes, certainly will.
The ten-minute film highlights Bartels' incredible, 50-year career as he relays a short summary of his working life. The documentary is interspersed with Monty Python-esque animation sequences as Bartels talks of the agencies he's worked with, the creative partners he's had - including teen-film titan, John Hughes - and the projects he's undertaken.
He discusses a unrealised project with Andy Warhol and an early meeting at Studio 54, the birth and politically-enforced death of Joe Camel, and the fact that, across a long and successful career, he's enjoyed "about 80 per cent of it".
Directed by Noah Readhead through Retriever, the film is a brilliantly made, incredibly interesting foray into a career worth talking about.
