Filmmaker Alicia MacDonald, has signed to SMUGGLER for global representation in commercials.
Known for her sharp visual style, distinctive humour, and fearless approach to character-driven narratives, MacDonald's work has already garnered global acclaim.
MacDonald first gained international attention with her short films Otherwise Engaged and Domestic Policy which showcased her knack for balancing satirical wit and emotional depth. Since then, she has directed high-profile television, including Lena Dunham’s Too Much (Netflix) and Stephen Merchant’s The Outlaws (BBC), earning praise for her ability to bring nuanced performances and cinematic flair to episodic storytelling. MacDonald has just finished post-production on her debut feature film, a romantic comedy (Working Title Films / Focus Features) which is due to air in cinemas in 2026.
Already a formidable force in the advertising industry, and one of the most sought after British commercial directors, MacDonald has built a strong reputation having worked with global leading brands. Her cinematic airline safety film for TUI - Safety: A Global Film, gained industry acclaim at this year's British Arrows and was listed in Campaign’s Top 5 Ads of the Year.
MacDonald says “Comedy is a mad unwieldy alchemy that has always fascinated me, the myriad of different tones and styles, the delicious vulnerability of laughter. I’m so excited to be joining the wonderful team at SMUGGLER and their roster of directors, what a chic list to find oneself on.”
Lucy Kelly, Managing Director, SMUGGLER says “Alicia has a real talent for telling stories with honesty and wit. Her work shows a confidence and originality that we really admire, she’s a badass and we’re excited to have her join the roster. With our first production underway, we already know it's going to be a fun ride."
