A new venture in Helsinki sees producer Siiri Koponen launch The Gødmadr Collective, a director representation outfit featuring internationally recognised social media artist Sonya Akulshina and Jussi Award-nominated filmmaker Samppa Batal.

Alongside this, Koponen is beginning her own directing career, applying a background in production to character-driven projects.

Koponen describes her new role as that of a moving image consultant, offering flexible collaboration with advertisers and agencies while delivering content ranging from social productions to larger commercial projects. “In a constantly evolving landscape, creative solutions are essential. I’m excited about the future and the chance to share my expertise more widely and flexibly,” she said.

The aim of The Gødmadr Collective, she explained, is to strengthen collaboration between producers and directors while providing a platform for emerging talent. “It’s wonderful to begin this journey together with Sonya and Samppa,” Koponen added.

Akulshina was recently awarded Best First Time Female Director at the Independent Shorts Awards in Los Angeles for How Long Until Now, created in collaboration with Koponen. Batal’s most recent feature, Apple Thieves (Omenavarkaat), received six Jussi nominations and won two awards. “I look forward to this collaboration with great enthusiasm,” Batal said. “It’s inspiring to embark on this path alongside Sonya, and a true honour to work together with Siiri.”

Koponen has spent more than a decade working with brands on award-winning commercials and short films. Her own short, Hush, which she wrote, directed and produced, won Gold at the Cannes Straight 8 Shootout. Looking ahead, she has stated she does not want to be confined to a single role but remains open to a broad range of projects.
