Q How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
A. Fish
As has been noted before in shots magazine, there is something inherently surreal about our piscatorial fin-bearing friends.
But while anyone can slip an oversized talking fish into an ad and call it absurdism, it takes a master of the genre to add the details that make a work truly, madly, deeply bonkers.
In this fanciful campaign for German telecom brand O2 Telefónica, created by Serviceplan Bubble and produced by CZAR Germany, director Andreas Nilsson adds some nice touches: a stylishly dark and eerie interior; a bewildered looking man who respond to the fish's news with horsey flubbering lips; a soaking wet swimmer in a suit and tie and – the finishing touch – choral music that brings an odd gravitas to the piece.
