Monoprix Releases Worst Song Ever to Promote Grocery Delivery
Monoprix and Rosapark create The Worst Song Ever to show the advantages of having your hands free to skip songs on your playlist.
It's a problem experienced by many modern men; listening to a track you really hate. Maybe you have your headphones plugged in and for whatever reason - whether it's because you're driving, you can't reach for your phone, or you have your hands full - you can't change the song at that moment so, you have to listen to it. In full.
In the below spot from Rosapark for French grocery store Monoprix, a woman walks through the city listening to music on her phone, while carrying her shopping home. Suddenly, a bizarre pop song comes on, which can only be explained as The Worst Song Ever. With random beats, cringe-worthy rap and painstakingly-simple lyrics, it's hard to listen to it in one sitting. Its terribleness is displayed in a visual juxtaposition of neon graphics, over-the-top backing vocals and poor camera footage of a jumping boy band - which only exaggerate the song's jarring tune.
Rather than promote appalling-ly made music, the campaign's message actually reveals that the woman couldn't change the song becuase her arms were full of groceries. Eventually she throws her purchases to the ground to free her hands and remove the pollution from her ears. A situation we can all relate to only too well.
In actual fact, The Worst Song In The World promotes Monoprix's new delivery service. Through it, shoppers can drop into the grocery store, create an order or arrange for Monoprix to deliver purchases home within the hour. Monoprix also provides a recycling service to dispose of used batteries and lightbulbs.
In addition to the ad, the campaign has also taken to twitter, encouraging users to tweet with the hashtag #LaPireChansonDuMonde (which literally translates from French as The Worst Song In The World). Users can also send their own lyrics to KaroTweet to be rewritten with the song's instrumentals and several winners can enter to have to have their lyrics sung by the brand's community manager. Although word of warning: the song's title is The Worst Song Ever, so don't expect your lyrics to be transformed into a memorable ballad any time soon.
