The American artist Barbara Kruger is making her debut in Britain with a multi-media exhibition exploring the universal themes of power, sex, relationships and money. Images
The South London Gallery will be hosting the installation which uses projection, text and performance to immerse the onlooker in a tidal wave of thought.
The texts are both conversational and confrontational, changing every ten seconds to create an overwhelming cacophony of images and voices.
Kruger's influential work has appeared in numerous forms, from T-shirts and matchbox covers to billboards, bus shelters and even the entire surface of a subway station.
Since 1983, she has caused conflict with her painfully honest statements, such as her texts in Time Square declaring "I am not selling you anything" and the resounding "I Shop, Therefore I Am." Her work is currently based through multi-media, using acoustics, photography and video projection.
'Power, Pleasure, Desire, Disgust' will be showing at the South London Gallery until March 18.
Kruger will be giving a free, illustrated talk at Tate Liverpool on January 24 between 6-8pm.
