Young Director Award 2012
This year’s winners were unveiled at the YDA’s new home yesterday on Cannes’ Croisette
In its new Thursday slot, the 14th annual cfp-e/shots Young Director Award descended on its new home at Espace Miramar yesterday afternoon, as this year’s winners were unveiled.
Showcasing young filmmaking talent from across the globe, winners were announced in 15 different categories including two new additions for 2012 – Animation and Video Art. Hosted by cfp-e president Francois Chilot, the packed auditorium saw work from countries including Japan, Australia, the USA, and of course several European nations.
Amongst this year’s winners were Filmakademie Baden Württemberg student Hanna Maria Heidrich, who took home her second award after claiming the Best in Show prize last year. In the Broadcast category, Brazilian directing duo Mateus Araujo and Tomas Salles claimed victory for their spot for Flying Horse through Ogilvy, while the European winner was Sonny director Stevie Russell for his PSA film. There was no award handed out in the non-European Music Video category and no first prize in non-European Film School but Chilot praised all those who had made the shortlist.
For the first time this year, the YDA is also introducing public voting – all the films are now available to view on the YDA YouTube channel, and the film with the most views in the next two weeks will be presented with a camera from sponsor Canon.
All the winners are listed below, and to see the work and have your say on which piece is best, please visit the YDA on YouTube.
