Jane Oak, agency producer at Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand, is a big fan of weather apps on her phone, Skittles humour in advertising and Mad Men on the TV.

Here she gives us her forecast on food, Facebook and finding more time at work in our latest On My Radar feature from Auckland.

What’s the best ad campaign you’ve seen recently?

Skittles Cloud.

Great work yet again. Outrageous humour you want to watch over and over.

What website(s) do you use most regularly and why?

I love eating culture so I follow blogs like Petite Kitchen and What Katie Ate. There is no harm in dreaming about escaping, so travel sites like Gourmet Traveller and Conde Naste take me away.

What’s the most recent piece of tech that you’ve bought and why?

Underfloor heating at home. It comes on at 5am and toasts my toes when the Auckland weather is throwing a tantrum.

Facebook or Twitter?

Facebook.  In theory I can see pictures of my dog being entertained at Barkley Manor (its doggy day care centre) when I’m at work. He’s never in any of them but I continue to check.

What’s your favourite app on your phone and why?

Inside every TV producer is a weather girl waiting to get out. My forecasting favourites are Metservice, Windguru, Accuweather and Metvuw.

What’s your favourite TV show and why?

Mad Men – every agency should have a drinks trolley.

What film do you think everyone should have seen?

The Big Lebowski.  It’s about a way of life.

Where were you when inspiration last struck?

In the middle of a tropical cyclone on a girl’s weekend away we were left without electricity. Rather than collapse into hysteria and madness the blitz spirit kicked in and we drank our gin supply.

What’s the most significant change you’ve witnessed in the industry since you started working in it?

We used to only make TV ads. Now it’s everything from online content to mobile apps, stunts and exhibitions.

If there was one thing you could change about the advertising industry, what would it be?

Time. As a producer we always find ourselves waving the magic wand trying to find more time.

What or who has most influenced your career and why?

The founding members of Beattie McGuinness Bungay.

From TBWA to BMB days in London, I learnt so much from these guys, including how to succeed and make the job a hugely satisfying part of everyday life.
