1 Singtrix karaoke machine

Got this from my mate Eric Berkowitz and his US company Humble; a simple karaoke setup that has such advanced pitch-correction hardware I will sometimes interrupt a bad meeting to Lumineer [US folk rock band] it to a halt. Impromptu karaoke makes for great teamwork exercises.

2 BBDO NY’s Parrot AR.Drone 2.0

We just got an office drone. It has yet to do anything other than mess with [CCO] Greg Hahn’s advanced airspace, but this instrument, from a production perspective, completely changes the game of video. From supplanting a helicopter with a crane, to now posing a threat to a dolly, whether you’re Chris Nolan or a filmmaker in Tallahassee, grab the controls (an iPhone in this case) and wow.

3 Reason.tv on Instagram: my wine reviews

I’ve rotated my wine experiences from Posterous [former blogging platform] to Facebook to Twitter to Tumblr, but its real home must be Instagram, which is as much about the info, utility and community identity as it is photo-aesthetics. @daverolfe99 will interrupt any dinner convo to dispense semi-sober wine tips.

4 Babolat Play Pure Drive tennis racket

Sports tech can be a lot of hype. But this is such an obvious data gathering tool – swing rate, power, impact locator, stroke tendency etc – and is invisibly unobtrusive, it is hard to question it becoming standard. Got a bum shoulder right now, so don’t ask me any more questions, but I’ll forward my data once back.

5 Baby’s Musical Hands app

We try to limit shoving a Bingo the barking dog video, or indeed the shiny splendour of an iPad, in front of our young Myla, but when she can frolic with piano sounds, a mosaic and cute explosions, it can be ‘educational’ too! Always interesting measuring your baby’s tech interplay, but this is painless fun.

6 Uber’s cause-based promotions

Love em or use their competitors, Uber [taxi app] has done an amazing job with their cause-related promos. From picking up Manhattan giveaway clothes (and delivering to Goodwill) to rose delivery to a hospital-near-you, Uber understands how charitable behavior needs to function as everyday product extension rather than a boastful add-on.
