Postcards traditionally serve as holiday mementos and keep-sakes of fun times away from home.

As the card space is so small, this often lends itself to the writing and gives travellers the chance to write a short, snappy and often experimental message.

Perhaps inspired by the laminated souvenirs, London-based agency Just So and Sheffield Doc/Fest has launched an online platform and named it Postcards.

The platform will feature the work of emerging filmmakers, who can win grants worth up to £5,000. There are 12 funded by the Just So Film Fund.

Three filmmakers will be selected in June next year at Sheffield Doc/Fest, while the others will be chosen throughout the year via online submissions. The first submission deadline is 31 January.

To launch the site, six filmmakers have donated a series of experimental shorts (below), to encourage possible applicants to really explore the documentary-making medium and push the boundaries.

Aka-Chan from Jonny Madderson & Jono Stevens

Five Stone of Lead from Jonny Madderson

Rocket War from Scott Carthy

Soft Serve from Lucy Bridger

Stopping Time from Adrian Sibley

“We want to give filmmakers the opportunity to explore the limits of documentary and make films with as much focus on form as on content,” says Just So co-founder Jono Stevens.

To enter submissions, visit the website or send an email to the Postcards team.
