There's a slew of Young Director Award information today as the Cannes Lions festival looms into view, with a panel discussion, deadline extension and an interview with YDA president, Francois Chilot, on the newest category created for the Award.

On June 23‬ the CFP-E/shots Young Director Award will be returning to The Cannes Marriott Theatre, after a year's absence, to celebrate the 19th YDA ceremony. ‬

In addition the YDA can announce that, for the first time, there will be a panel discussion around the theme of Virtual Reality and associated technology, which will take place prior to the award-giving ceremony.

Supported by Google, this panel will be chaired by shots Editor, Danny Edwards, who will be joined on stage by several soon-to-be-announced experts in VR technology, to discuss the current and future impact that VR can have on the advertising industry.

To make sure that those attending the talk can fully appreciate the discussion, and the technology, Google will be offering each audience member a pair of their Cardboard Glasses.

There is also a deadline extension for entries to the 2016 YDA, with the new deadline set as May 22, so you have six days remaining to enter your work.

Lastly, with this year's YDA featuring a brand new category, Changing the World Frame by Frame, the YDA president discusses the thinking behind the award and how John Hegarty helped frame its mandate [above].

Reservations for the Award Ceremony and the VR panel will be opening soon, so keep an eye on the YDA site for more information, as there are only 900 seats available.
