A Day in the Life of James Hagger

06:00: Flying over Mongolia. Exterior temperatures of -35°C.

06:05: Just landed in Ölgii, in the Altai region of Mongolia.

06:35: We have to drive through the mountains to get to our location. Oops - our van has broken down. But, no worries, the drivers will fix it in 10 mins!

07:20: Happy crew arriving on set. When in Rome you do as the Romans.

07:30: Putting a microphone on Botei the Eagle Hunter who we are filming today.

07:40: Kerwin, our sound guy, on planet Mars.

07:45: Botei and his nephew Dildash are on top of the mountain getting ready for an eagle hunt.

07:50: The young Dildash is part of the new generation of eagle hunter. He’s only 17 years old and has already been hunting for a few years.

08.00: The eagle’s first flight of the day.

11.00: We had to improvise a dolly with the van on the frozen river to shoot a tracking shot of Botei and Dildash on their horses.

13.20: Shooting on the frozen river.

14:00: The beauty of the eagle as it takes off to hunt.

16.00: Above the frozen river. Botei and Dildash live on the other side of the river where the trees are.

17.30: It’s a wrap!

18.40: Local food for dinner! Not very vegan friendly...

19:00: Here’s our hotel for the night. Tomorrow, we’re off to the other side of the planet to Ecuador to film a tribe called the Achuars who live in the Amazonian rainforest.
