2017's Most Read Features on shots.net
The anatomy of an agency, our GORILLAZ augmented reality cover & David Kolbusz's inaugural column make up the most clicked-on features of last year.
10. On My Radar: Kate Taylor
From must-see telly like House of Cards and The Antiques Road Show to flunking an application to the Revolutionary Communist Party, Kate Taylor, EP at Skunk London, shared her creative influences and inspirations.
9. A Day in the Life of David Register
Part of our regular feature in which industry insiders chronicle their typical - or not so typical working day - in pictures, Arnold Worldwide's ECD showed us a sun and shadow-filled Boston.
8. Cannes Radar: Fred Raillar & Farid Mokart
In this special Cannes Lions edition of our regular On My Radar feature, the one-time enfants terribles of the advertising scene and founders of digital boutique agency Fred & Farid set out their winners' predictions, creative influences and how they narrowly missed out on owning a chunk of Netflix.
7. Why Women End Up Producing Rather Than Directing
This straight-from-the-heart opinion piece by Kitty Turley, EP at Strange Beast, clearly struck a chord with many readers. Sparked by conversations around the launch of Free The Bid, Turley's article candidly examined the reasons behind the gender split of producing versus directing, and urgently called on the industry to develop and encourage young female directors.
6. Ted Royer: The Way I See It
In this personal profile, Droga5 New York's CCO told us that the best way to succeed in advertising is to spend all day napping and watching TV, while occasionally glancing at the mantelpiece as the awards pile up.
5. Colleen De Courcy: The Way I See It
The formidably talented co-CCO of Wieden+Kennedy gave us a glimpse at the person behind the advertising powerhouse, with an interview that covered everything from the mouse houses and moss roses of her past, navigating advertising’s “boys club” and coping on just four hours’ sleep a night.
4. David Kolbusz Reimagines Water Commercials
2017 saw the outspoken and irreverent CCO of Droga5 London join shots as a regular columnist, with a tongue-in-cheek series imagining the bottom-drawer scripts which could - and indeed should - never be made. Kolbusz's inaugural Off Script column certainly set the tone for things to come by comically skewering a designer bottled water brand. Click here to read his latest column.

Cue loads of over-excited shots readers waving their phones over the cover and squealing 'But how the hell does it DO that?' In this article, Passion's technical director Sajjad Amjad and MD/EP Debbie Crosscup told us exactly how. We're still scratching our heads, but then we're just simple wordsmiths.
2. Greg Hahn on Ad Psychology and Golden Retrievers
For our New York special (issue #170), we met Greg Hahn, the softly-spoken but creatively dynamic CCO of BBDO New York and the man responsible for such advertising highlights as HBO's Voyeur, Herding Cats and United Airlines’ healing post-9/11 letter to America. He told us all about his fascination with behavioural economics and why it's actually a good idea to work with animals and children.
1. Anatomy of an Agency: If Advertising is a Body, Which Part is Which?
One of the most popular articles from our Togetherness issue, guest edited by J. Walter Thompson's London and New York offices, this wry piece asked who really delivers the blood, sweat, tears (and renal functions) of an advertising agency? Well, it's all down to who you're asking, apparently...
