What’s the best promo you’ve seen recently and why?

Some promos take one idea and make it last for the entire video but the video for the Beck [pictured top] track, Up All Night crams in about 20, and each one is realised brilliantly. The whole thing is so entertaining and makes me smile a lot.

What’s the first promo you remember being impressed by?

I was 11 when I saw Jamiroquai's Virtual Insanity, and it pretty much blew my mind. Obviously, it is technically very impressive but Jay Kay’s performance totally makes it; a perfect marriage of concept and artist.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?

This is very hard to answer as there are too many great videos to pick a favourite but I’m going to go with Gesaffelstein's Hate or Glory by Fleur & Manu. Sometimes you can focus too heavily on how something was made instead of how it makes you feel. Something about the atmosphere in this video freaks me out, and I like it.

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspirational?

Takeshi Kitano is amazing. He does everything himself, he films, directs, stars and edits, I don’t know how you would manage all that at once. His style seems to be completely unique, mixing tragedy and comedy and always showing you something completely unexpected. The last five minutes of Zatoichi could possibly be the best music video, that’s not a music video, ever.

What are you listening to at the moment?

I got a bit obsessed with J Hus's Did You See recently. I listened to it on repeat for about a week.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?

My Wahoo elemnt GPS cycling computer. Cycling is brilliant, but it’s very easy to get lost in the countryside, the GPS helps me get home again.

What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?

If they were to ever reform, Oasis, if only to hear Noel Gallagher slagging off the video afterwards. That would be a great honour.

Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?

With music being more accessible than ever on services like Spotify, it seems people's tastes are getting more and more niche. Hopefully this will mean artists will be even more daring with their briefs and we’ll see a whole new crop of super creative work.

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…

I like Hugh Grant movies.
