Director Andrew Litten joins modest dept.
With a similar vision and shared roots in skateboarding and contemporary music, Litten is a perfect match for the Berlin-based production company.
Adding a unique and deeply personal perspective that is both dreamlike and informed by actual experience, modest dept. signs US director, writer, and photographer Andrew Litten to its steadily growing roster of talent.
With a similar vision and shared roots in skateboarding and contemporary music, Litten is a perfect match for the Berlin-based production company.
Having formed his voice and visual language in Atlanta’s budding art, skate, music, and film scenes, Litten started to focus on bigger visual projects when he turned 18, and soon found himself working with musical heavy-weights including Migos, Drake and Big KRIT. Now based in L.A., he’s been exploring the space between documentary and visual storytelling as an in-demand director across films, advertising and music.
RecogniSed by The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Nowness, AdWeek, shots Awards, and more, Litten has recently been working on various high-profile music videos (e.g. Belle & Sebastian, The Beach Boys), massive crossover campaigns (1800 Tequila x Pusha T, Spotify x Anderson .Paak) and acclaimed advertising campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands (Google, Airbnb, Vans, Kellogg’s, Mercedes-Benz).
“I’m thrilled to be joining modest dept.’s tight-knit family of filmmakers, and to be formally represented in Germany for the first time,” says Litten about joining the studio’s creative family.
“The German ad space has always been where I’ve gained the most inspiration, and I believe it’s where I can elevate my pursuit in creating bold, emotionally resonant work. Many thanks to Johannes Lehmann, Benedikt Merten and the whole team for the years of friendship already under our belt, and I cannot wait to see what the years ahead of us reveal. It’s an absolute honour to be joining in their ascent.”
Speaking of future projects, the US director pointed out that he primarily wants to “bring a necessary nuance to commercial storytelling. I'm interested in crafting stories that feel like a breath of fresh air in the midst of today's constantly changing, frenetic world. Less is always more for me.”
Modest dept.’s EP’s Johannes Lehmann and Benedikt Merten go as far as to call this direct, no-frills approach “Andrew’s superpower. “His ability to seamlessly blend close-to-human documentary style with commercial filmmaking is what sets him apart and shows his great empathy and human side. We’re excited to welcome him to the official modest dept. roster and can’t wait to see the work he is going to produce with our team.”
