Production company Spindle announce that comedy director Simon Hynd has joined the roster for representation in the UK.

Hynd cut his teeth writing and directing a handful of critically acclaimed short films and crime-drama feature film Senseless which was nominated for Best British Feature at Raindance. Since then he has turned to TV and become well known for performance-driven comedy that balances intelligence, humour and natural, contemporary visuals.

He has directed multiple TV shows, including the latest series of smash-hit Motherland, which is currently 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. He also directed both series of BAFTA winning comedy/drama There She Goes starring David Tennant and Jessica Hynes, and the upcoming series of Joe Wilkinson and David Earl’s The Cockfields.

Hynd joins Spindle to translate his versatile, character-led comedy to the UK commercial market. On signing to Spindle Simon Hynd said: "I’m delighted to be joining the team at Spindle and looking forward to collaborating to create work with humour, warmth and poignancy. As I’ve striven to find a more ethical means of production I’m drawn to Spindle’s aim to be a climate positive company. Their approach to inclusivity in front and behind the camera and their mentorship programs align with my own beliefs and together I’m convinced we can create powerful films in a conscientious way."

Miles Nathan, Executive Producer / Partner adds: "I could not be more excited that Simon has chosen Spindle as his new home in London. His incredible work on the latest (and best!) season of Motherland shows his deft handling of tone and his unique skill of drawing out human, flawed and hilarious performances from his cast. We can’t wait to introduce him to agencies and brands alike.
