Havoc Content and director Raúl B. Fernández continue producing comedic and catchy branded content – this time, a recent video starring Charles “Peanut” Tillman, retired Chicago Bears cornerback. The National Peanut Board video, a comedy piece promoting their #ShellOut campaign, is Tillman’s first ad since his retirement announcement in July, 2016.

The video was a chance for Fernández to crack open his improv comedy skillset and draw on a deep love for quirky humor (not to mention a penchant for flinging off-screen props into the hands of his actors).

Fernández’s prior broadcast advertising experience includes Amazon, Toyota, Lipton and Captain Morgan; he is fresh off of a string of comedy-driven spots with home production company Havoc Content that feature professional athletes and celebrities.

''Especially for comedy, working with an actor to sculpt a performance can be a daunting task,” says Fernández. “There are so many ways to tell a joke. I take my background in improv comedy (as an alum of the Upright Citizens Brigade) and combine it with the formal dramatic directing education I got from USC Film School. In both, the essential core is honesty, telling the story from a place of authenticity - even if that place happens to be the mind of a man who molds peanut butter jars out of peanut butter. It also helps to cast a raccoon as co-star.''

The #ShellOut campaign marks one of the few times in recent memory that a director and production company have teamed up to fill a swimming pool with enough peanuts to support a pro athlete doing snow angels in the tank.
