Katy Wang Directs ‘Forests’ Music Video For Tom Rosenthal

Partizan director Katy Wang’s latest music video 'Forests' for singer Tom Rosenthal is a nostalgic animation full of colour and playful scenes. The childlike visuals complement the innocence of the song, and the dreamy nature of the narrative.
Katy commented on the film, saying: “The song immediately made me feel nostalgic, and reminded me of the feeling you get when you're a kid sitting in the backseat of your parent's car. Huge mountains at night can sometimes play tricks on your imagination; and sitting in a warm car, sheltered from the rain is a really special memory for me. That kind of cosy, safe, curious feeling is what I wanted to convey the most through the music video - what it's like to be a child again.
I chose to animate it at a lower frame rate than I usually work in, to evoke a more childlike, wobbly feel to it. The style is inspired by a bunch of visuals I loved absorbing when growing up, like Studio Ghibli movies and the Nintendo DS game Animal Crossing: Wild World. Tom was an amazing client to work for, he gave me complete creative freedom to really indulge in this project.”
