Stop-motion animation is as intrinsic to the festive season as The Grinch's heart growing three sizes, Jimmy Stewart welcoming the "wonderful old Building and Loan" and Kevin Mcallister maiming a pair of morons.
It's fitting, therefore, that Macy's and BBDO NY lean heavily into the retro feel of the technique for their heartwarming Christmas campaign, telling the tale of Tiptoe & The Flying Machine.
Following the titular Tiptoe as she overcomes her fear of flying, the film features adorable creations animated to perfection by Nexus stop-motion master Conor Finnegan.
With a lovely pay-off (the live-action section being directed by Superprime's Ben Quinn) and the addition of Tiptoe being set to march down Manhattan on Thanksgiving morning as a puppeted animated balloon, this sweet story already has a timeless feel.
