Make it legit with H&R Block
New Work from Ogilvy New York for H&R Block's campaign Make It Legit, celebrates gig workers and a bagpiping pickle!
For 70+ million gig workers in the U.S., there's an important tax change impacting them this season. Yet as many as 50% are unaware of or don’t understand the new rules, according to a January 2025 study by H&R Block and Morning Consult.
Thanks to a big shift in 1099-k reporting, the income threshold for independent workers to file taxes has changed from $20k to $5k, leaving more independent workers earning income through third-party payment apps or online marketplaces to navigate these new tax implications.
Now, as April 15 approaches, H&R Block is celebrating the creativity and spirit of gig workers across the country with its new campaign, Make It Legit created to empower the millions of taxpayers who have revenue-generating side hustles.
The hero film from Ogilvy NY for the campaign is for content creator, and H&R Block partner, Pickle Pete, shining a spotlight on the passion, creativity, and hustle of gig workers, driving home the message that they deserve recognition and support, all to the tune of bagpipes.
