Michel and Olivier Gondry make Pictures for Facebook
Shot remotely during the lockdown, the film has the charming madcap energy that the Gondrys bring to all their work.
Partizan directors Michel and Olivier Gondry latest film for Facebook took in six shoot days, nine states and 48 talents (including a baby and a dog!).
The work, Pictures, was created entirely remotely—the director, agency, client, talent and crew working independently from pre-production through to final product—and produced as a Hollywood-grade shoot, not user generated content. The production was done in an innovative, diligent way to enable in-home shooting during COVID. Industry professional camera rigs were set up outside each talent member’s home, then disinfected by a technician. The talent were instructed virtually on how to set them up and position them to capture the shots we needed, all contact free.
The shoot took place over the course of six days, orchestrating 48 talent members spread across the country in nine states, from California to New York, North Carolina, Florida and more.

Through the production company Partizan, Michel Gondry, known for his work on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, served as director alongside his brother, Olivier Gondry, who was also served as VFX post-production lead. The duo not only to brought the idea to life, but also co-created and designed transitions that add some magic to the final result.
The film also included the choreography of Mandy Moore, of La La Land fame, edit from Jeff Buchanan, of Her, and visual effects by The Mill.
