New Givenchy Film Featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Directed By Hey Wonderful's Sam Taylor-Johnson.
The English actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the new Givenchy Gentleman, the cool and sexy archetype whose masculinity doesn’t preclude sensitivity or generosity. In short, he is a man who never disappoints.
He not only entertains as an actor, but he’s also a talented singer and dancer. He learned everything from an early age through years of training that paved the way for his deserved success onscreen.
After getting noticed in several television and cinema roles, he played the leading part in the biography of John Lennon Nowhere Boy in 2009. In 2010, he excelled as a comic superhero in the blockbuster Kick-Ass, and in its sequel three years later. But he is unquestionably skilled at the art of changing registers. He starred alongside Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs in 2011 and then joined the cast of Oliver Stone’s Savages in 2012, as well as portrayed Count Vronsky in Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina the same year.
His latest feats include his role in Nocturnal Animals by Tom Ford, for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in January 2017 and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He also plays the lead role in Doug Liman’s latest film, The Wall.
Generosity, open-mindedness, unwavering independence, with a touch of poetry and eccentricity... That’s what defines the Givenchy gentleman, brilliantly portrayed in a set of new advertising visuals and films by Hey Wonderful's Sam Taylor-Johnson.
The renowned British photographer/director/producer is known for Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), Nowhere Boy, the film that marked her meeting with Aaron in 2009, and more recently Gypsy, starring Naomi Watts on Netflix. Sam and Aaron are partners in life, and partners in crime. When working separately, they’re impressive. But when together, the symbiosis of their personalities and talents is nothing short of stunning. Proof lies in this unprecedented black and white film.
A countryside manor, at the end of the night. In the silence, the murmur of a fountain and the distant sounds of a party drawing to a close. Inside, the last remaining guests speak in tired voices, some listlessly play cards. Clearly, a spark is missing, and the spark is him: the nonchalant dandy played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson walks in holding a strand of gypsophila and puts on a record, pausing to pet a kitten in true tender hearted style.
He starts to dance to the rhythm of Enjoy Yourself by rapper A+. All eyes are on him. A shirtless man joins the dance – it’s the American model and dancer Aaron Doucette. A woman played by model Elizabeth Salt joins in. The trio jumps onto the table and launches into a frenzied choreography. The trio continues outside as the sun rises.
And because we recognize a gentleman by his acts of kindness, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character offers just that, giving his jacket to the man shivering in the cool of daybreak and slipping his strand of gypsophila between the woman’s lips. He continues dancing with her, next to a fountain. They are about to embrace, the rhythm slows down, when, unexpectedly, he grabs the flowers and falls backwards into the water, pushed by the woman. He stays there, floating as much in the water as he is in the bliss of the moment...
