Ross Garrett joins Underhill's roster
Ross is known for his work with brands like Lexus, Ford, VW, Johnnie Walker and more.
Underhill welcomes South African born, Boston-based director Ross Garrett to its growing roster.
Known for his atmospheric storytelling and emotive visual style, Garrett brings a unique sensibility shaped by years of creative exploration across disciplines.
“My path into directing was an organic and multifaceted one,” Garrett shares. “I started my career as a graphic designer, forming a small company in 2003 called Injozi after leaving college. It was the only way to do what we wanted to do, to pay homage to our city, Johannesburg, to hang out and create with friends and explore the way we wanted to. I feel that, in many ways, this community shaped me."
When describing his voice as a director, Garrett explains, “I would like to think that my work is linked to a visceral mood. I really believe in a deep understanding that connects us and often is able to resonate in mediums like film, music, and photography.”
That spirit of collaboration and creative intuition is what drew Garrett to Underhill. “When I met Matt, Dexter, and Alex and spoke to them about Underhill, so much reminded me of the days at Injozi and the community that had inspired and shaped me. The dedication to producing great work with great people. It just felt right.”
Garrett joins Underhill after an impressive career working across film, music, and advertising, bringing with him a reputation for craft, mood, and collaboration, values that align perfectly with Underhill’s creative DNA.
